40% of Indiana corn, 28% of soybeans planted

The USDA says hot and dry weather delivered nearly ideal planting conditions for Hoosier farmers last week.

Forty percent of Indiana’s corn crop is planted, compared to 60 percent last year. Nine percent of the crop has emerged.

Twenty-eight percent of soybeans are planted, compared to the one-year average of 48 percent. Four percent of the crop has emerged.

Winter wheat is rated 65 percent good to excellent.
