Samantha Bee searches for a Democrat who likes Kyrsten Sinema — without much luck

Although Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona has her share of admirers among independents, libertarians, Never Trump conservatives and fellow Blue Dog Democrats, the decidedly centrist senator has — much like Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia — been a frequent source of frustration to the liberal/progressive wing of her party. Liberal comedian and “Full Frontal” host Samantha Bee, in a humorous but scathing segment for her show, posed the question: Are there any Democrats who like Sinema?

“Since the dawn of time,” Bee told viewers, “people have searched for mythical creatures, from Bigfoot to the Loch Ness Monster to the most mythical creature of all: a Democrat who actually likes Kyrsten Sinema. We sent Mike Rubens and Allana Harkin to find out if they truly exist.”

“Full Frontal” employees Rubens and Harkin, wearing Medieval attire, went to the 2022 Arizona Renaissance Festival to get some Democratic perspectives on Sinema. Harkin told a group of attendees, “I’m on a quest. I’m here to find a Democrat who supports Kyrsten Sinema. Are thou that Democrat?” And some Democrats responded, “Nay.”

Harkin spoke to a female Arizona Renaissance Festival attendee who was dressed as a fairy, asking, “What does the fairy community think about Kyrsten Sinema?” And the “fairy” laughed and responded, “Ooh. Well, this fairy is very disappointed…. You know, in the fairy community, there’s a curse called dark money. And I believe Kyrsten Sinema’s been bought out with said dark money.”

Another Democratic attendee, asked about Sinema, responded that she is “an embarrassment, I’m sorry to say.”

Alejandra Gomez, a Democratic activist attending the Arizona Renaissance Festival, expressed her disappointment with Sinema’s voting record and told Harkin, “We did not foresee that we would be electing a Republican in Democrat’s clothing…. She was cosplaying as a Democrat.”
