As an admin of Citrix Workspace app on Chrome OS, you have flexibility in how you want to configure your end-users’ experience. Whether your deployments are on-prem or in the cloud, or if you have managed and BYOD devices, there are various ways to configure Citrix Workspace app settings for your end users.

Traditionally, Citrix admins had several manual configuration options available to change settings for the Citrix Workspace app for Chrome OS. Configuration edits could be made through the Configuration.js (default), Web.config, Default.ica, or Google admin console, depending on their deployment type.

While these configuration methods met the needs of the admin, they often were tedious, time-consuming, and complex. In addition, the manual process of configuring settings posed challenges due to a lack of central management because of the need to use a combination of configuration options, manage settings based on the device and deployment type, or configure settings across multiple platforms individually.

Citrix recognizes the need for a single pane that can be accessed to address all configuration needs across platforms, without worrying about the type of deployment or the device users choose to use. That’s why we are excited to announce that the Global App Configuration Service is now supported for Citrix Workspace app for Chrome OS. Chrome OS is now the latest addition to the platforms supporting the Global App Configuration Service, including Citrix Workspace app for Windows, Mac, HTML5, Android, and iOS.

As an admin, you can take advantage of this easy-to-use, centralized service to resolve your configuration woes. The Global App Configuration Service enables administrators to centrally configure settings for Citrix Workspace app from a single pane. With this latest release, you can quickly implement customized settings, eliminating the need to make time-consuming configuration changes in multiple files or locations for users on unmanaged or managed devices.

Please note that the following activities are not supported when using the Global App Configuration Service with the Citrix Workspace app for Chrome OS.

  • Users using HDX SDK based launches within Chrome OS: This continues to be supported via the traditional configuration options, as well as through HDX SDK connection parameters.
  • Users leveraging Manual .ica file launches: Chrome OS users who navigate and login to their store URLs via the browser, click on a Citrix application or desktop, and then manually launch the downloaded .ica file.

Users in these scenarios should use the following traditional configuration options: Configuration.js, Google admin console, and Default.ica.
