It was a fight five years in the making and boy, did it deliver:
Negotiations that ranged from nonexistent to chilly to rancorous.
Deadlines set, deadlines ignored, deadlines disregarded and re-set.
Major League Baseball’s 30 owners set on keeping the Players’ Association at arm’s length, and an ever-greater share of billions of dollars stuffed into their pocket.
In the end, MLB’s 99-day lockout lurched to a close Thursday when both sides found enough common ground to agree to a five-year collective bargaining agreement. And indeed, it was a compromise.
