It has been a little over six months since we announced general availability of service continuity, and it has been a very exciting time since then.

With hundreds of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service customers enabling the feature in Citrix Workspace and thousands of users/devices syncing connection leases (the long-lived authorization tokens that allow Citrix Workspace app to launch sessions even during outages), we have seen service continuity save the day for Citrix IT admins. Make sure you read our previous blogs on resiliency and frequently asked questions about service continuity.

We have also expanded our platform support and released additional features, including:

  • Support for Citrix Workspace for Web (Chrome/Edge) with Citrix Workspace app for Windows and Mac (see here for more details)
  • Support for Citrix Workspace app for Linux
  • Citrix Service Provider multi-tenant support
  • Additional Citrix Workspace IdP support (for example, AAD, Okta, and SAML)
  • Support for Citrix Workspace app for Android (see here for more details)

I have been on multiple calls with customers interested in deploying service continuity, and their No. 1 request has been, “How do I test this to know that it’s working when I really need it?”

Service continuity introduces some changes to the user experience, so my recommendation to Citrix admins is always to test before enabling it on your production site.

To support this testing, we created a companion guide that walks you through different types of outages and how you can simulate them. These include:

  • Citrix Workspace outage
  • Citrix Identity service outage
  • Cloud Broker outage
  • How to block connection leases for specific users

In addition, we included testing steps and information on the connection lease sync process and how service continuity works on browsers.

With this guide, Citrix admins can put service continuity to the test and proceed with enabling it in their production environment. If you’re leveraging Citrix Workspace and Citrix Gateway service or Citrix Workspace and internal connections, service continuity will help ensure employees can stay productive, even during outages.
