Shelter reaches Down to Zero goal

In late October, the Humane Society of Lincoln County was offered a $400,000 challenge grant from the R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard Foundation to be awarded once the HSLC reduced its bank loan balance to $400,000 for the James Cook Animal Shelter and Adoption Center on Highway 70.

The Down to Zero Committee at HSLC collected donations toward that goal.

“On the last day of 2021, thanks to a generous and anonymous donor, HSLC reached our Down to Zero goal,” said Laurie Viselli, committee chair.

“Our new shelter really began with a $600,000 grant from the Hubbard Foundation. Now, to have it finished and fully debt free, with a $400,000 grant from the Hubbard Foundation, is beyond a dream come true."

Viselli thanked the Late R.D. Hubbard, Joan Dale Hubbard and the Hubbard Foundation for the donation.

Funds formerly reserved for mortgage payments would be used for operational and programmatic initiatives, said Debbie Barbie, HSLC President-elect.

The check was presented to HSLC members by Robert Donaldson.

The Humane Society will celebrate this award at its annual member meeting, via zoom, at 1 p.m. Jan. 29. For more information on the annual meeting, call 575-808-8424.
