China Eyes Bases On Africa's Atlantic Coast

Gen. Stephen Townsend, Commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), reports that China wants to establish a large Navy port capable of hosting: Submarines or Aircraft Carriers, on Africa's Western Coast.

China has approached Countries stretching from Mauritania to South of Namibia, intent on establishing a Naval Facility.

If successful, Beijing will be positioned to base Warships in the Atlantic, along with existing bases in the Pacific and a nascent Facility on the Eastern Coast of Africa, in Djibouti.

They're looking for a place where they can rearm and repair warships. That becomes military useful in conflict. They're a long way toward establishing that in Djibouti. Now thet're casting their gaze to the Atlantic coast and wanting to get such a base there. The Atlantic coast concerns me greatly. Townsend said.
