Due to potential inclement weather, the Alamogordo Tree Lighting was moved to Dec. 17.

The event will take place between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Washington Park.

"Due to the 90% chance of rain and high winds expected on Friday, we are moving it," City of Alamogordo Communications and Marketing Administrator Michelle Brideaux said.

The event will include craft and food vendors, free hot cocoa for the first 100 people to arrive and a reading of Clement Clarke Moore's classic Christmas tale "The Night Before Christmas."

Santa Claus will also be in attendance.

Alamogordo celebrated its annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 13 and Parade of Lights on December 14, 2019.

As of Dec. 7, the Alamogordo Center of Commerce's Parade of Lights is still expected to come down 10th Street to New York Avenue beginning at 5 p.m. on Dec. 11.

There are about 45 entries in the parade, according to Brittani Gandy of the Alamogordo Center of Commerce.

The theme this year is 'Twas the Parade Before Christmas where participants decorate their floats and vehicles like their favorite Christmas story.
