#AMonthofFaves – Best Moments of 2021

See all of the #AMonthofFaves prompts HERE. Now, on to my top five favorite moments of 2021!

Turning 40!

On March 1 of 2021, I turned the big 4-0! I celebrated by taking the kids to the aquarium and then we all went out for dinner. My ‘cake’ was cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory. My sweet dance class of teenagers surprised me with a poster and balloons at the class that week and it was honestly just so nice of them to think of me.

Spring Break at Goblin Valley & Bryce National Canyon

Growing up in Utah means that I’ve been to the National parks here several times. But my boys haven’t! Our trip down south to visit Goblin Valley & Bryce National Canyon was so much fun. Bryce is so underrated. I know everyone wants to see Zions and Arches, but seriously, don’t miss Bryce! It’s gorgeous. I would also probably lump this memorable moment in with all the other time we spent outdoors this year hiking, camping, and enjoying nature.

Teaching

Teaching for me is two-fold. I’ve been teaching dance since 1999 and every year is a new adventure. The kids really make it worth the time and effort. They make me smile, laugh, and they bring out the best in me each week. I also teach as an adjunct professor for the local university. I teach a library science (research methods) course online and it has been such a rewarding experience! Every semester is an opportunity to improve and I couldn’t love it more.

Judging for Cybils Awards

I went out on a limb and applied to be a Cybil’s judge this year. I was chosen to judge the first round of YA Speculative Fiction and we started reading nominated books in October. My duties still continue until the end of December but so far it’s been such a positive experience!

Spending Thanksgiving in the Bahamas

This year we opted to take a cruise to the Bahamas for Thanksgiving and it was the best decision ever! We had such a blast. The cruise line was organized and took all the necessary covid precautions so that everyone could feel safe. Our little family had such a great time and we event got Thanksgiving dinner on the ship!

Bonus – Covid Vax

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how grateful I am for modern science and the Covid vaccine. My husband and I got ours in April but I was especially thankful when my 7 year old was able to get his recently. I know I’ll breath a huge sigh of relief when my 4 year old can finally get it. Just feeling thankful for that extra bit of protection!

I love this Top 5! And yes, a special shout out to the Covid vaccine! Best thing of 2021. But a cruise is pretty good too 🙂

Yay, welcome to this side of 40! That national park is beautiful. Teaching has also been such a beacon of light for me during this time as well. I started taking dance classes this year, which I forgot to add to my post, and that has been SUCH a good time.

    • @Akilah That’s amazing! Dancing is so much fun. I’m glad you’re giving it a try!

I have always wanted to visit Bryce! The lady I did my student teaching with had a slide show about her trip out west and I fell in love with all her photos of Bryce canyon. Sounds like you had a wonderful year!
