[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I’m probably a bit too soon to re-introduce Roger & Gallet which been very quiet for a couple of years but it was sold by L’Oreal last year to Impala Investments (who are also investors in Augustinus Bader) and a big pause followed while they regrouped. But while it’s hard to track some of these exact products down as I think they’re still sorting out distribution, it’s a very good time to remind you of the brand – it’s one of those anyone, anytime brands because who doesn’t love a gorgeous, pleat wrapped, fragrant soap?
I’ve been a fan of the brand for such a long time and have been to the flagship store on Rue St Honore in Paris (I am not sure if it is still there) and Jean Marie Farina is Mr BBB’s favourite soap. It’s a brand with plenty of history especially around Jean Marie Farina eau de cologne which in this post HERE, I ended up having a swig of. I don’t recommend but apparently Napoleon used to drink it so much that Josephine had a specially shaped bottle made so he could carry it easily in battle. The formula has changed little and I can still remember (from 2012) just how horrible it was to taste so I can’t help but marvel at Napoleon’s taste buds. To smell, of course, was a totally different matter – it’s sharp, refreshing and an absolute icon of colognes with a sharp tang of alcohol and following aromatics which are cooling and reviving.
I’ve got Fleur d’Osmathus and Rose Soaps (the Rose is a high recommend for the experience of rose cologne – a tangy, non-sugary rose), a soap set featuring Fleur d’Osmanthus, Fleur de Figuer and Gingembre Rouge, a Bois d’Orange Body Lotion and a mini Rose Hand Cream. And, that selection is a very tidy re-introduction because it’s reminded me how lovely it all is and reassured me that nothing seems to have changed. A Rose soap and a Jean Marie Farina soap in the emergency present drawer is solid advice or if you like to do a table gift, a fairly economical way to do it as they and the hand creams are £5.50 each HERE. Escentuals has a decent selection although not the festive wrap as far as I can see. In fact, they’ve got offers across several products HERE.

I absolutely love Roger & Gallet – M&S used to stock it, not sure if they still do… Reminds me of my late, much loved, much missed muvva – she used to love the Iris fragrance…. Delightful, classic products, along with 4711…

Yes sorry ah oui R&G is fab, drinking the cologne must have been errr interesting Jane! I love the Gingembre Rouge and all the orange based ones which can be worn together. A good quality soap for handwashing is such a lovely ritual, no rushing, just enjoying, plus R&G have tons of matching hand creams for that lovely layering experience. I am hope the amazing brand tradition carries on, it’s been getting harder to find in the shops. I lost my lovely mum in January of this year and smell her bottle of 4711 from time to time. Oh Mothers and 4711! Always linked in my mind too. You knew you were proper unwell when the bottle of 4711 came out to be dabbed onto the forehead. 4711 and Shocking by Schiaparelli are my Mother smells.
Oh wow.. it was hot Ribena that signified proper unwellness in my house – not on the forehead obviously 🙂
I have loved Roger&Gallet soaps and lotions for years….. oh the Carnation was divine –which is not made anymore !
Sadly they are not here in Australia anymore and I just hope with the new company that bought them …. Please bring them back to my shores!!!

I love this brand so much. It disappeared from sight here in Ireland and I was wondering what had happened. I never met a roger and gallet scent I didn’t like, all absolutely beautiful

They must be kicking themselves for discontinuing their hand washes. I haven’t seen any hand wash in this brand since about a year before the pandemic started.
You are right – I hadn’t thought of it – but yes, kicks and more kicks probably with all that alcohol available.
