Tax policy a key issue for upcoming Iowa Cattle Industry Leadership Summit

Tax policy will be a focus when Iowa cattle producers gather for the annual leadership summit later this month.

Iowa Cattlemens Association director of communications Anna Hastert tells Brownfield one of the educational breakout sessions is on navigating the tax code.

“We’re seeing some pressure regarding clarity with the current administration to maintain current tax code efficacy, and in the description (of the session) it says experts will identify useful tools for cattle producers looking to minimize tax impacts or make steps toward passing the farm to the next generation.”

She says there will be policy committee meetings that provide an opportunity for grassroots feedback.

“And the importance of that is grassroots-informed policy allows our association to be more influential with key decision makers. So by having producers help guide our policy, we can be better informed and have more of an impact on the state and federal levels.”

Hastert says the Iowa Cattle Industry Leadership Summit, December 15th and 16th at the Prairie Meadows Conference Center in Altoona, will also cover soil health, disaster assistance, fence law, and the cattle markets.
