Spectator at WWE Monday Night Raw charged with attempted assault after tackling Seth Rollins

A spectator at WWE Monday Night Raw was arrested and charged with attempted assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs after he jumped the barricade during the event and tackled pro wrestler Seth Rollins.

Detective Denise Moroney of the New York Police Department confirmed the charges to USA TODAY Sports in an email.

The suspect has been identified as Elisah Spencer, 24, of Brooklyn.

According to Moroney, Spencer left his seating section inside the Barclays Center at around 9:20 p.m. before he jumped the barricade. Rollins was walking up the ramp after leaving the ring when the spectator later identified as Spencer tackled him and knocked him down. The incident was captured on the live broadcast of the event on USA Network.

The broadcast feed cut away and didn't provide any explanation of the incident, though the announcers expressed confusion over what was happening.

Cellphone video from fans in attendance, however, showed WWE support staff, including referees, coming to Rollins' aid and pulling Spencer off of him. Rollins then walked away and up the ramp, while several WWE and security staffers whisked Spencer away.

According to police, Spencer was taken into custody at the scene and Rollins refused medical attention after sustaining a swollen lip.

The WWE issued a statement, according to the New York Post, in response to the incident.

“WWE takes the safety of its performers very seriously,” the WWE said. “The individual who attacked Seth Rollins has been turned over to the NYPD and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
