Jessica Simpson is giving fans a glimpse into her battle with alcoholism, by sharing an "unrecognizable" photo of herself from four years ago.

The 41-year-old singer, who revealed her past addiction struggles in her 2020 memoir "Open Book," took to Instagram on Monday to share a picture of herself in a pink sweatshirt and sweatpants and sitting on a cushion, along with reflections on addiction.

She wrote that the photo captures the "very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity."

"I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward- never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world," she continued.

Simpson added that the four years since the photo was taken have felt like only two and that the "real work that needed to be done in my life was to actually accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage."

"The drinking wasn’t the issue. I was," she wrote. "I didn’t love myself. I didn’t respect my own power. Today I do. I have made nice with the fears and I have accepted the parts of my life that are just sad. I own my personal power with soulful courage. I am wildly honest and comfortably open. I am free."

Jessica Simpson reveals sexual abuse as a child, alcohol addiction in new memoir, 'Open Book'

Simpson revealed she was sexually abused as a child and later overcame alcohol and drug addictions in her memoir "Open Book." . She wrote that trauma from the abuse, coupled with stress over her career, led her to become dependent on alcohol and drugs.

"I was killing myself with all the drinking and pills," she wrote in her memoir, adding she's been sober since Nov. 2017 and that therapy helped her heal. "Giving up the alcohol was easy. I was mad at that bottle. At how it allowed me to stay complacent and numb."

In December 2020, Simpson announced she was partnering with Amazon Studios for two new series inspired by her revealing memoir and two essays she wrote about motherhood and gratitude.
