Adrian Peterson to sign with Tennessee Titans after Derrick Henry's injury

The Tennessee Titans have made one move to address their backfield with Derrick Henry set to be sidelined indefinitely by foot surgery.

The Titans are signing veteran running back Adrian Peterson to their practice squad with the intent to elevate him to their active roster.

Peterson, 36, has not played so far this season while waiting for a landing spot to emerge. The former NFL MVP and four-time All-Pro last played for the Detroit Lions in 2020, recording 604 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 156 carries.

In Tennessee, Peterson could see a significant workload out of the gate. Henry, the NFL's reigning offensive player of the year and rushing leader, appeared to suffer a foot injury Sunday in the first quarter of the Titans' overtime win against the Indianapolis Colts.

Titans coach Mike Vrabel said he would not put a timetable on a possible return amid reports that Henry's injury could be season-ending.

"I know that he'll do everything that he can to work himself back to be able to help this football team," Vrabel said Monday. "Whenever that is, that's when it will be. I know that he'll be around our team as soon as he can. I know that it's important to him. I know that'll be important to our team.

"We'll have to move on without him in the short term and not look back."

Backup Darrynton Evans was placed on season-ending injured reserve last week. Jeremy McNichols and Mekhi Sargent are the only other running backs who have logged carries for the Titans so far this year.
