Nitrogen management ahead of ’22

A precision agronomist with Advanced Agrilytics says nitrogen management will be critical for the corn crop in preparation for next year.

Matthew Greenspan says he’s working with farmers to address nitrogen loss in flooded areas that can lead to yield loss.

“We’re noticing and focusing on those areas by adding nitrogen protectant and by also adding nitrogen there to buffer for where we’re going to have some loss,” he says.

As for the fields that dry out first, he says “we need to probably back down nitrogen protectant a little bit on that acre…really paying attention to environment for nitrogen managing in helping that corn crop get the amount of nitrogen it needs when it needs it and not losing out to weather environments by using these protective layers.”

Greenspan is based in Western Missouri.
