A low-pressure system will cross the north-central U.S., delivering snow in parts of western South Dakota and producing rain at lower-elevation sites. Here at mid-week, rain will spread into the Great Lakes States. On Thursday and Friday, rain showers will develop across the eastern U.S., as the storm system’s trailing cold front becomes more active. Elsewhere, storminess will increase during the second half of the week across northern California and the Northwest, with 5-day precipitation totals exceeding 4 inches in some coastal and orographically favored locations. In contrast, little or no rain will fall during the remainder of the week from southern California to the central and southern Plains.
