Cowboys Damontae Kazee was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with a DWI, police said.

The 28-year-old footballer was pulled over for a traffic violation in the Dallas suburb of The Colony around 3:00 a.m. on State Highway 121. The Colony police's spokesperson said Kazee told an officer that he had indeed consumed alcohol after they reported physical signs that Kazee was under the influence. After failing a sobriety test, Kazee was arrested by the officer.

Kazee posted a $2,500 bond and was released from jail at 12:34 p.m. on Tuesday.

His arrest comes after spoke on Monday about how he prepared players to stay sharp during the bye week.

“We had a pretty significant team meeting as far as expectations and what they need to do on the bye week,” McCarthy said in a press conference. “Our strength and conditioning coach spoke, the nutritionist spoke, so we feel like we've given these guys a good plan during these next seven days.”

Kazee has been a welcome surprise for the Cowboys in 2021, starting all six games and recording 17 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble. His emergence comes after a torn Achilles sidelined him in October of 2020 while playing for the Atlanta Falcons.

Coach McCarthy also spoke toward the importance of remaining not only physically, but mentally sharp during the bye week.

“We talked about the distractions and what we don't want,” McCarthy said. “We have an outstanding season, 5-1, where we are. We want to make sure everybody's taking care of themselves.”

A Cowboys spokesperson declined to comment, according to the Dallas Morning News.
