IL soybean producer survey highlights farmer concerns

A recent producer survey by the Illinois Soybean Association is helping the organization better serve the state’s soybean farmers.

“We use this information to prioritize the budget and focus on areas that are most relevant to producers.”

Deer Park farmer and ISA Chairman Steve Pitstick tells Brownfield 302 Illinois Soybean Farmers participated in the phone-based survey, each with at least 200 acres, and when asked about legislative priorities…

“Trade isn’t as high on the burner as it was a couple year ago but is still there. Naturally, crop insurance and the upcoming farm bill, making sure we are talking to farmers and ensuring the farm bill is drafted the way it needs to be.”

He says weed and disease control, soil and water management and increasing fertilizer prices topped the list of agronomic concerns and will likely be the big topics at upcoming winter meetings and events. The survey revealed 98% of respondents conduct soil testing and 92% have reduced tillage on their farm.

Pitstick is pleased to hear the majority of farmers are familiar with ISA, the soybean checkoff program and how it works.
