Milk futures mixed, cash dairy trade lower

Milk futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange were mixed Tuesday as global strength was offset by lower cash trade.

October Class III milk down a penny at $17.91. November six cents higher at $19.22. December up 16 cents at $18.96. January a dime higher at $18.25. February through April contracts unchanged to four cents lower.

Dry whey down $0.0025 at $0.60. One trade was made at $0.5925.

Blocks unchanged at $1.75.

Barrels down $0.0125 at $1.7775. Two trades were made at $1.75 and $1.7650.

Butter down $0.0275 at $1.7725. Thirteen trades were made from $1.7725 to $1.8025.

Nonfat dry milk down $0.01 at $1.53. Five trades were made from $1.5225 to $1.53.

The Global Dairy Trade index in New Zealand on turned back higher after a week of standstill movement, up 2.2 percent. Lactose posted the largest gain during the event, up 5.9 percent, followed by butter, up 4.7 percent. No loses were reported.
