Agronomist encourages growers with tar spot pressure to plan for ’22

A precision agronomist with Advanced Agrilytics says many growers in his area are experiencing tar spot pressure.

Jake Isley covers southeast Michigan and northwest Ohio.

“Tar spot is something that a lot of my growers had not dealt with in a major way in years past and they had to really think about different management decisions and how to combat that disease for this year to try to continue to maintain high yields,” he says.

He tells Brownfield those growers need to begin planning for the 2022 season.

“How are we going to manage residue, how are we thinking about what our plan is to combat that disease going into next year and does that look like multiple applications and different timing of applications,” he says.

Isley says his biggest piece of advice is to be proactive with management decisions.
