[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Honestly, I thought we had seen the demise of the matte lip but lately, I’ve seen so many new ones including these absolute beauties from Jimmy Choo. Matte is a new texture launch for the brand and comes in four shades.

They’re certainly taking it in the style stakes – the casings are elongated with a ball of gold at the end. Inside, it’s a regular sized lipstick patterned with a kind of snake skin effect.

These are definitely not for the faint hearted – they are impactful on colour (there’s a bit of me that wants to be the person that can wear Plum Passion without a backward glance, dancing down the Tesco aisles!) and actually not drying although I tested having used balm the night before. The only issue with using balms before you apply matte lipstick is that the oils in the balm will break down the lipstick more quickly than if it goes onto a non-oily surface.

If you are thinking yet about seasonal gifting (I’m doing my usual hop around the C word!) these come so beautifully packaged and the lipsticks have their own leatherette wallet. The shades you see here are Coral Sunset and Plum Passion. They’re infused with the Jimmy Choo Crush fragrance but it’s literally just a trace so you don’t live with it under your nose all day.

As you’d expect, these are pricy at £50 each but the brand has well and truly brought the luxury so it somehow feels that the cost is about right. The battle is really on for luxury lipsticks – and by that I mean expensive. Louboutin £73, Serge Lutens £70+, Hermes £62 (a special set of 24 will set you back £1400) and so on.

As you can see, they’re very saturated – these swatches are one stroke each. The other two shades are Red Attraction and Nude Blush, which are as they sound. You can find them HERE. As you can see, there are also Jimmy Choo nail polishes – the one I’m using in the pictures is Crazy Fuchsia and it really is ultra bright. I haven’t had it on my nails yet (breakage again) but it’s beautifully ornamental and very much a statement dressing table piece. They’re £35 each HERE and there are 8 shades, so if you have a nail fan on your list, they will impress.
