Tim Tebow shares advice he gave to Urban Meyer after Jaguars coach was seen in bar video

Tim Tebow says he talked with Urban Meyer after the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach did not go home with his team after they lost to the Cincinnati Bengals last week and was caught on video with a young woman.

One clip showed the woman dancing close to Meyer’s lap and another one showed Meyer appearing to touch the woman’s behind.

Tebow played for Meyer at the University of Florida, winning the Heisman Trophy and capturing two national championships.

"When I first saw and heard about what happened, my heart was hurting for Miss Shelley" Tebow said on ESPN's First Take.

Tebow said his advice he gave to Meyer was to apologize and own his mistake.

JAGUARS:Mom of woman from Urban Meyer video worried about daughter's 'emotional status'

OPINION:Jaguars owner should have known hiring Urban Meyer would lead to this

"Coach shared with me that [this has been] one of the hardest times of his life. He apologized, but he didn't need to apologize to me," Tebow said. "He is hurting. I think for some of the guys, he will have to earn back their trust and respect."

Meyer apologized to the team earlier this week with team owner Shad Khan publicly reprimanding the first-year coach for  “inexcusable” behavior.

“I appreciate Urban’s remorse, which I believe is sincere. Now, he must regain our trust and respect. That will require a personal commitment from Urban to everyone who supports, represents or plays for our team. I am confident he will deliver," Khan said in a statement.

The 0-4 Jaguars will attempt to earn their first victory of the season against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
