Grassley on RVO rumors: “worst week in Washington for ethanol ever” if true

Members of Congress are rallying amid rumors the Biden administration plans to reduce federal biofuel blending requirements.

The Environmental Protection Agency is reportedly circulating documents that show the agency is considering significant cuts to the Renewable Fuel Standard.

A bicameral group led by U.S. Democrat Representatives Cheri Bustos of Illinois, Cindy Axne of Iowa, Minnesota’s Angie Craig, and Minnesota U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar sent a letter to the White House this week urging the administration to reject any attempt to lower Renewable Volume Obligations in the RFS.

Iowa U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says if the leaked RVO’s are real.

“It’s going to be the worst week in Washington for ethanol ever.”

He tells Brownfield there needs to be an uprising in Congress to prevent the Biden administration from choosing Big Oil over family farmers.

“It’s just horrifically detrimental to ethanol, and then effects the livelihood of family farmers. Not only in Iowa, but through about 14 corn-producing states in the United States.”

This week’s letter, signed by members of Congress from seven states, raised concerns about the harm a reduction in biofuels usage could cause to the administration’s clean energy goals and economic stability of the renewable fuels marketplace.
