WaynesboroFest 2021 offers events for everyone

WaynesboroFest 2021 events kick off the first week of October with fun-filled events for the whole family. 

Starting off the series is a concert featuring local music from Center of Gravity, Drew Adams and Lucky Punk in Memorial Park on Sunday, Oct. 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. Pets are allowed but must be on a leash at all times.

"The event is free, and we will have a few food trucks and we will have a beer garden, with Rough Edges Brewing. We ask that people do not bring any coolers but blankets and chairs and pop-up canopies are encouraged," WaynesboroFest 2021 chairperson Harry Geesaman said. "Alcohol must be consumed within the beer garden as well during the event." 

WaynesboroFest events start on Oct.3 and carry through the 9th celebrating all things Waynesboro.

Later in the week on Tuesday, Oct.5, is the Colors of Waynesboro Oration held at the Waynesboro Industrial Museum, located at 235 Philadelphia Ave. This event is free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. 

A special showing of a documentary will take place at the Waynesboro Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. The film, “Waynesboro 200 Years of History” was written, directed and edited by Waynesboro native Greg Kohler. The film was originally prepared for the Waynesboro Bicentennial in 1997.  Extras include a “flight over Waynesboro” and a special feature on Renfrew Museum and Park.  Admission is free. 

For those who like to yell out the answers during their favorite game show, then Waynesboro Jeopardy isthe place for you. It will be held at the Keystone Family Restaurant on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $15 ​​​and includes one all-you-can-eat buffet meal.

If the great outdoors is more your speed then check out the best ball golf tournament at Carroll Valley golf course on Friday, Oct. 8. Tee times are from 10 to 11:50 a.m. and cost is $200 per team or $50 per person. Registration includes 18 holes of golf, cart, contest prizes, snacks and drinks. Team sign-ups are now through Oct. 6.

Wrapping up the series of events on Saturday, Oct.9, is a youth fishing rodeo and a car and truck showcase.Youths ages 5-13 years old can fish from 9 to 11 a.m. at Red Run Lake. Admission is free, registration is from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Contestants must supply their own equipment and bait, and adults may assist but cannot fish. An awards presentation will follow the rodeo. 

The car and truck show will be held on Sixth Street in front of the Landis Complex owned by D. L George & Sons from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  All makes and models are welcome. Registration is $10 at the event. No alcohol is permitted, and trophies will be awarded for best-of-show and top 20 vote-getters.

"While this year's celebration is not as large as years before, we are grateful that we have all of these great events that we're looking forward to," Geesaman said. "Hopefully we will have a great turnout and WaynesboroFest will continue for years to come."
