Iowa harvest 4 days ahead of normal

Spotty precipitation did not have much impact on harvest progress across Iowa last week.

USDA’s latest crop progress report says at 9 percent, the corn harvest statewide is four days ahead of the five-year average.

In southwest Iowa, Carl Jardon of Randolph tells Brownfield harvest will be starting soon.

“I checked some corn this morning (with) 16.9 percent moisture and 59 (pound) test weight. Of course as that moisture comes down a little bit, that test weight will come back up to around 60.”

For soybeans, harvest is four days ahead of normal at 18 percent complete.

USDA reports other field activities during the week included spraying forages for army worms and harvesting hay.
