In his series of humorous but biting Not My Party videos, Never Trump conservative and ex-Republican Tim Miller has laid out a long list of reasons why he feels alienated from the modern GOP. Miller, in a Not My Party video posted on The Bulwark and YouTube on September 23, argues that the GOP isn't Rep. Anthony Gonzalez's party either — praising Gonzalez as a "moderate king" and explaining why "reasonable people" of different political stripes need to find common ground despite their differences.

Gonzalez, a conservative Ohio congressman, recently announced that he will not be seeking reelection in the 2022 midterms. Since voting to impeach former President Donald Trump in January, Gonzalez has been receiving death threats from MAGA extremists — and he fears for the safety of his family.

Miller says of Gonzalez, "In normal times, he'd be on magazine covers as the next great Republican hope, but instead, he's retiring, at age 36, for one reason: because he voted to impeach the coral-crusted Cro-Magnon after he attempted a coup that would have ended American democracy…. Because Gonzalez opposed Trump's plot, this high-T conservative golden boy started getting death threats from MAGA bros, and needed security just to get through the airport with his young kids."

By "high-T," Miller means "high-testosterone" — which is his humorous way of mocking the "MAGA incels" who consider themselves macho and regard Trump opponents on the right as "cuckservatives."

Unlike Miller, who supported now-President Joe Biden in 2020, Gonzalez is still a Republican. But Miller argues that when "reasonable people" like Gonzalez fear for their safety, U.S. democracy is in trouble.

"Gonzalez learned the modern GOP is not his party," Miller says. "This should be a wake-up call to anyone vaguely conservative who doesn't like Trump, but is holding out hope that the Republicans will eventually let them back in the fold. They won't. So, it's time for the rest of us to figure out how to work with other reasonable people — even those who might not agree with us on a few policy issues — to oppose these fake tough guys who have no qualms about trying to end our democracy."
