Former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany posted a tweet hoping to take a jab at President Joe Biden on Thursday. However, the insult quickly nosedived when she realized she'd accidentally slammed former President Donald Trump, as Mediaite explained.

On Thursday, September 23, McEnany posted an infographic with statistics about the rise in crime across the United States. She tweeted, "The U.S. murder rate under Joe Biden."

However, there was one problem with McEnany's post. The statistical timeline is from 1960 to 2020 with the murder rate surging in 2020. The figure was first highlighted in a recent New York Times report on the updated figures added to the FBI.'s Crime Data Explorer.

The publication reported:

"The United States in 2020 experienced the biggest rise in murder since the start of national record-keeping in 1960, according to data gathered by the F.B.I. for its annual report on crime.

The Uniform Crime Report will stand as the official word on an unusually grim year, detailing a rise in murder of around 29 percent. The previous largest one-year change was a 12.7 percent increase in 1968. The national rate — murders per 100,000 — still remains about one-third below the rate in the early 1990s.

The data is scheduled to be released on Monday along with a news release, but it was published early on the F.B.I.'s Crime Data Explorer website."

Although McEnany attempted to blame Biden for the problem, the murder rate actually spiked under former President Donald Trump. The alarming murder rate increase occurred before Biden even took office. McEnany appeared to delete the tweet shortly after posting it, but not before Twitter users captured screenshots. Many users quickly took aim at McEnany to criticize her and point out the glaring error.

Some users also noted how her epic blunder actually draws attention to Trump's shortcomings while in office.
