Wisconsin chicken, egg production falls again

Wisconsin’s chicken and egg production fell last month.  USDA officials say August egg production totaled 171 million eggs.  That’s a 6% drop from July and 11% below August of 2020.

There were 5% fewer laying hens in August, with about 6.6 million birds.  That’s also 13% fewer hens than August of 2020.

USDA says Wisconsin’s 2021 laying hen population peaked last winter at around 7.6 million birds but has fallen sharply since June.
