LANSING – A Lansing teenager has been charged in connection with an incident involving a handgun Tuesday at Everett High School.

The student, 18, was released on a personal bond after his arraignment Wednesday in 54A District Court on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a weapon in a weapon-free school zone, court records show.

The school was locked down for about an hour Tuesday morning after officials learned that a student may have had a weapon, Lansing school officials said. The handgun was located and a student was arrested and brought to the city's lockup, Lansing police said.

Officials on Tuesday said the arrested student was 17, but his age was corrected in a Wednesday news release.

Carrying a concealed weapon is a maximum five-year felony. Possessing a weapon in a weapon-free school zone is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 93 days in jail.
