An 18-year-old Everett High School student was arrested Tuesday after a handgun was recovered from his possession, police said.

Everett High School

The school entered a full lockdown this morning after the Lansing School District Department of Public Safety became aware that a student might have a weapon, according to a district press release.

By the time police arrived, the student had been detained and the handgun recovered, said Lansing Police Department Public Information Director Robert Merritt.

At that point, Merritt said police arrested the student and brought him to Lansing police lockup. Charges against the student, who will be arraigned later, are being pursued through the Ingham County Prosecutors Office.

The weapon is also in police custody.

The lockdown lasted for about an hour before students resumed regular schedules, said Robert Kolt, the district's spokesperson.
