Kansas corn harvest, winter wheat planting ahead of normal

The Kansas corn harvest is slightly ahead of usual.

USDA’s latest crop update says at 20 percent, the pace is beating the five-year average of 19 percent.

Winter wheat planting is also a little faster than normal at 13 percent, thanks in part to nearly an entire week suitable for fieldwork.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 36 percent compared to 46 percent a year ago and the usual pace of 34 percent.

Sorghum is five percent harvested, and cotton is maturing faster than normal.
