Evansville man convicted of attempted rape, criminal confinement and battery

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — An Evansville man was convicted of attempted rape and criminal confinement Monday after assaulting a woman last year.

James Shane Snapp, 47, was found guilty after a three-day trial in Vanderburgh Circuit Court, the prosecutor’s office said in a news release. He faced five felony charges, according to court records, but was ultimately convicted of three: attempted rape, criminal confinement and battery resulting in serious bodily injury.

Evansville police arrested Snapp on Sept. 9, 2020, after the victim told police Snapp locked her in a house and beat her between Sept. 3-4. According to the probable cause affidavit, Snapp claimed he didn’t remember what happened on those days and admitted to using meth.

His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 11.
