3 shot at Pennsylvania baby shower after argument over gifts, authorities say

Three people were shot and wounded at a baby shower in western Pennsylvania after an argument occurred over gifts at the shower, authorities said.

Police in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania, about 17 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, said they responded to a call just after 6 p.m. on Saturday saying there was an active shooter at the Kinloch Fire Department. When authorities arrived on the scene, they located the suspect and arrested him without incident.

"Preliminary investigation shows the family argument began and turned physical, and then a suspect introduced a nine-millimeter semi-automatic handgun, firing off rounds," Lower Burrell Police Chief John Marhefka said during a news briefing.

Marhefka said the argument was over gifts at the baby shower.

Authorities said a 23-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and a 16-year-old youth were wounded. The three victims were taken to local hospitals and Marhefka said the injuries don't appear to be life-threatening.

The suspect, who the Tribune-Live reported as Isiah J. Hampton, 25, was reported to be the father of the baby the shower was held for.

According to the Tribune-Live, Isiah J. Hampton 25, the expectant father, was arrested and is currently being held at Westmoreland County Prison. He is charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of recklessly endangering another person,  according to court records.

Tribune-Live also reported the shooting occurred after Hampton got into a physical argument with the mother of the child over transporting gifts from the shower and people attempted to intervene.
