Alamogordo Police safely arrest barricaded subect following hours-long stand-off

At about 2:36 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13, the New Mexico State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team assisted Alamogordo Police Department in the apprehension of a man who was barricaded in a residence on the 1300 block of 22nd Street.

Gregory Mangham, 44 of Alamogordo, was wanted on an outstanding warrant for possession of a firearm by a felon, violation of a protection order and resisting or obstructing an officer.

"After hours of crisis negotiations and tactical efforts, (the barricaded person) peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody," an Alamogordo Police Department news release states. 

Mangham was asked to leave the residence where he lived in one of the bedrooms, the suspect allegedly stole a 9 mm Ruger and then barricaded himself in a different bedroom from which he was staying at the home on 22nd Street, court records state.

The homeowner lived in the bedroom where Mangham had barricaded himself, court records state.

"(The homeowner) forced open the door to his bedroom," court records state. "(Police) observed Mangham laying down on a bed with a black in color handgun with the barrel of the firearm on the side of his head."

The Major Crisis Intervention Team was called, and they tried to speak with Mangham who refused to talk to them, court records state.

Eventually Mangham surrendered and is being held at Otero County Detention Center.

An expedited motion for pretrial detention has been filed.

As of Sept. 14, no hearings have been set in this case.
