Remembering 9/11: Events in Franklin County commemorate 20th anniversary of attacks
It’s been two decades since terrorists hijacked airplanes and forced America into a new era. In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, organizations around Franklin County will host services, exhibits and other special events focused on reflecting on how the attacks changed us and honoring those killed.

9/11 Memorial Service
When: 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12
Where: Historic Letterkenny Chapel and Franklin County Veterans and 9/11 Memorial Park, 2171 Carbaugh Ave., Chambersburg
What: Former Pennsylvania Gov. Mark S. Schweiker will share "20th anniversary reflections on 9/11."
9/11 Exhibit
When: Ongoing. Tuesdays through Fridays from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Extra hour, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11
Where: German Bank Barn, Allison-Antrim Museum 365 S. Ridge Ave., Greencastle
What: The 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks is commemorated with an exhibit that includes newspaper clippings, artwork, magazines, books, posters, memorabilia and more.

9/11 Walk
When: 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11
Where: In Greencastle - Eastern Avenue to Baltimore Street and Center Square, then North Washington Street
What: Local residents can join Greencastle Mayor Ben Thomas Jr. and members of the Rescue Hose Co. for a walk from Eastern Avenue to Baltimore Street and Center Square, "simulating the 110 floors — 2,071 steps — of the World Trade Center that firefighters, police officers, EMS providers and civilians climbed and descended to save many citizens that morning."
From the Square, the walk will continue to the veterans' monument on North Washington Street, where there will be a moment of silence, time of remembrance and prayer.
Greencastle Remembers Bluegrass Concerts
Where: Jerome R. King Bandshell off Mifflin Lane, Greencastle
When: 2 and 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11
Free patriotic concerts featuring D&S Bluegrass Band. The colors will be presented at the beginning of each concert by the VFW and American Legion Joint Color Guard.
Sept. 11, 2001: The Day the Changed the World Poster Exhibition
When: Open all September; Monday through Thursday from 11 am. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library (second-floor gallery), 45 E. Main St., Waynesboro
Provided to the library by the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York City, the display of 14 posters recounts the events of Sept. 11, 2001, through the personal stories of survivors and others who witnessed the attacks. The exhibit also includes archival photos and images of artifacts from the museum's permanent collection. The exhibit was made possible by the National Endowment for Humanities: Democracy Demands Wisdom.
