Lindsey Graham stuns host with claim the US will invade Afghanistan again: 'Are you serious?'
When MAGA Republicans appear on the BBC's "HARDtalk," they should never expect the type of softball questions they typically get from Sean Hannity at Fox News. "HARDtalk" is known for tough questions, whether the interviewee is a Republican or Democrat in the United States or a Labour or Conservative politician in the U.K. — and Sen. Lindsey Graham got such an interview when he spoke to "HARDtalk" host Stephen Sackur in early September and predicted that the U.S. will be invading Afghanistan again.
Graham told Sackur, "Whether you like Trump or not, whether you believe it's Trump's fault or Biden's fault, here's where we're at as a world. The Taliban are not reformed, they're not new. They have a view of the world out of sync with modern times. But most importantly, they're going to give safe haven to Al Qaeda, who has ambitions to drive us out of the Middle East writ large and attack us because of our way of life. We will be going back into Afghanistan as we went back into Iraq and Syria."
Sackur pushed back against that claim forcefully, asking Graham, "Are you serious? You think the United States will once again, in the foreseeable future, put troops back into Afghanistan?"
Graham responded, "We'll have to. We'll have to because the threat will be so large. Why did we go back to Syria and Iraq? Why do we have 5000 troop in Iraq today? Because of the caliphate rising…. Yes, it will be a cauldron for radical Islamic behavior."
