Mets acting general manager Zack Scott facing DWI charge

NEW YORK — This season, the New York Mets have dealt with one mess after another. 

The latest is up there for the worst: Acting general manager Zack Scott is facing a driving while intoxicated charge, as first reported by the New York Post. 

The Mets confirmed the allegations in a statement released Wednesday afternoon. 

"We were surprised and deeply disappointed to learn this morning about an alleged DUI involving Zack Scott," the team said in the statement. "We take this matter very seriously. Zack will not be traveling with the team for our upcoming road trip while we learn more and determine next steps."

White Plains police captain James Spencer said Scott was arrested Tuesday morning at 4:17 for driving while intoxicated at the intersection of Fisher Avenue and South Lexington. Scott refused to take a breathalyzer test, but failed a field sobriety test, Spencer said.

“It was a run-of-the-mill DWI arrest,” Spencer said. “Nothing noteworthy other than who he was.”

On Monday night, Scott attended a fundraiser for the club's Amazin' Mets Foundation at owner Steve Cohen's home in Connecticut, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed. That event ended around 8:30 p.m. 

According to the charging documents, Scott is due to appear in White Plains City Court on Thursday. 

Scott, the Mets' acting general manager for this season, replaced Jared Porter, whom the team originally hired but then fired because he sent explicit messages — including an unsolicited picture of a bare penis — to a foreign female reporter.
