Microsoft Windows Server 2022 is here, and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops is offering Day 1 support for this new OS! When it comes to integrations, it is no surprise that Citrix is ready to add value to Microsoft’s latest offering upon its release. With a focus on security and streamlined management, Citrix technologies running on top of Microsoft Server 2022 offer fantastic benefits for our VDI and DaaS customers.

This new server release is available for both cloud-hosted and on-prem environments, giving admins the flexibility to host their infrastructure where it works best for their businesses.

Here’s what you need to know as a Citrix administrator:

  • Microsoft officially announced availability of Windows Server 2022 on Sept 1, 2021.
  • This release comes via the Microsoft LTSC release channel for on-prem deployments, as well as an Azure datacenter edition targeted at cloud.
  • Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops CR 2106 offers support for this server platform (using 2106 and newer VDA) across on-prem and cloud-hosted environments, including Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop.

If you are still enjoying the last days of summer, like most of us, and aren’t planning to roll out the new server OS overnight, that’s okay too!  As with any new OS rollout, we encourage customers to first deploy new operating systems in pre-production environments.

If you’re a Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service customer, you have the latest and greatest features and updates automatically. If you are still running Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops on-prem, Current Release (CR) 2109 is right around the corner and gives you a great opportunity to upgrade your Citrix environment while trying out this new server OS. Get ready for 2022 and deploy the new server OS from Microsoft with your Citrix environment today!
