An incident Wednesday involving Pennsylvania State Police and multiple Adams County police agencies ended with a self-inflicted gunshot.

Troopers from PSP Gettysburg gave chase just before 3 p.m. after learning that Taylor Johnson, wanted for attempted homicide in North Carolina, was traveling northbound on Route 15.

Police say they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Johnson's vehicle after finding it near mile marker 13. Johnson, 24, failed to stop and took off at a high rate of speed.

Johnson crashed the vehicle at the off-ramp to Route 234 (Heidlersburg Road) and police say he ran into a wooded area.

Heidlersburg Road was closed from Lake Meade to Old Harrisburg roads for several hours, according to tweets by public information officer Megan Ammerman.

Troopers and members of various Adams County Police agencies set up a perimeter around the wooded area. Police say Johnson shot himself as they searched the wooded area.

Johnson was pronounced dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.
