Passwords are as insecure as I was in high school.

I know what you’re saying. “But SeanDo, how could you be insecure with that tuba wrapped around you, a bright – red polyester sport coat, and a Justin Bieber haircut, well before the Beebs was even born?

Some things just can’t be explained. I know.

But what can be explained is how passwords get hacked. They are, by their very nature, pretty insecure. Whether they’re easily guessed, obvious to the bad actor, or even written down on note somewhere easily accessible to the malcontent co-worker. Passwords alone are insecure.

So, when I heard about FIDO2 and how Citrix Workspace is enabling stronger standards of authentication I had to turn to my friend and “Security Sommelier” Nitin Sharma to get the details.

According to Nitin, moving beyond passwords is a must for all enterprises and a key priority for security teams. Simply stated, FIDO2 enables more secure methods of logging in. Even I know that part of FIDO2 standards is to leverage local devices for biometric authentication (retina scans, fingerprints, facial recognition or Windows Hello, just to name a few).

But how does that help me in a virtual environment?

Nitin told me, and you can hear it, too, if you watch the short video below, that Citrix Workspace enables FIDO2 support directly in the virtual desktop agent (VDA). That means no cumbersome setup or manual shifting of files. Even when a user launches an app that leverages these stronger authentication methods, the VDA will read the local camera, biometric scanner, etc., and enable that user to seamlessly, yet securely, access that resource.

So, move out of the 1980s and ditch your passwords. Use the built in FIDO2 capabilities right within your VDAs. Why, it’s as easy as looking cool while playing the tuba. (And yes, I know this is a Sousaphone, but let’s not get picky.)
