Firefighters from more than 50 central Pa. fire companies responded to a 4-alarm fire raging at a food distribution warehouse in Lancaster County on Wednesday.

The fire at the Weaver Nut Company Inc. warehouse on Route 322 in Clay Township  began about 6:30 p.m., according to Northern Lancaster County Regional Police.

Police said a large plume of smoke with possibly hazardous fumes was forcing a “3-mile exclusion zone” from Lancaster Airport’s control tower. Aircraft were advised to stay away from the area. No injuries were reported.

“We remind citizens to stay clear of the area for their safety and for the safety of the first responders on scene,” police said Wednesday evening.

Police said the fire, which completely destroyed a warehouse, is under investigation.

The warehouse is an importer and distributor of candies, chocolate, nuts and more from around the world, according to the company's website.

Police issued the following statement on Thursday: "The NLCRPD wishes to extend its gratitude and thanks to all of the fire companies, apparatus units, medical personnel, traffic safety members and the list goes on. Thankfully no injuries were reported as the investigation continues into the cause of the fire. We ask that onlookers please stay clear of the area for your safety and of those securing the scene."
