MO crop conditions lower on wet, hot conditions

Missouri crop conditions fell across the board last week after a return to wetter than normal conditions.

The USDA says corn silking is almost complete in the state at 94 percent and corn entering the dough stage passed half. Sixty-four percent of the crop is rated good to excellent, a drop of two percent from last week.

Soybean blooming is ahead of last year at 71 percent with 36 percent of the crop setting pods. Missouri’s soybean condition fell slightly to 59 percent good to excellent.

Cotton squaring is at 67 percent complete but was done this time a year ago. More than a quarter of the crop is setting bolls with the crop rated 48 percent good, a 19 percent drop from last week.

Rice heading is 14 percent behind last year at nearly one third. The crop’s condition fell to 66 percent good to excellent.

Winter wheat harvest is complete.

Seventy percent of Missouri’s pastures are rated good to excellent. Topsoil is 85 percent adequate and four percent surplus. The state’s subsoil is 89 percent adequate and five percent surplus.
