The Germania Maennerchor will be hosting their annual Volksfest from Thursday, Aug. 5 to Saturday, Aug. 7 from 11 a.m.-midnight. A $5 cover charge begins at 4 p.m. Enjoy a ridiculous amount of gemuetlichkeit with beer, German costumes, German music and dancing, and food including special recipe bratwurst, kraut, potatoes, white beans, pork knuckles, fried kraut balls and more.

Haynie’s Corner First Friday will host a hot dog eating contest on Friday, Aug 6, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Competitors will have five minutes to eat as many hotdogs with buns as possible. Entry fee is $20.

Rules should be read carefully and include gems such as: “Should a contestant be observed hiding their hot dogs, dropping them under the table, or placing them on another participant’s plate they will be disqualified. Participants who suffer a reversal of fortune and/or urges contrary to swallowing will be disqualified (and possibly laughed at)…you may not participate if you appear intoxicated.” The prize includes hot dog gear, glory and a bottle of Tums.

Los Bravos Mexican Restaurant is now offering street tacos prepared to order at your catered event.

Los Bravos Mexican Restaurant is now offering a catered street tacos bar. A Los Bravos employee will set up with your choice of meats including steak, chicken, tongue, barbacoa shredded beef and pork al pastor with sides and heat and assemble tacos on site.

Los Bravos also has a new summer specials menu at the East Side and Jasper locations only that includes more of your authentic Mexican favorites such as sopes, tortas and more varieties of street tacos.

Osaka Japanese Hibachi and Sushi will have their grand opening on Evansville's West Side on Wednesday, Aug. 4. The restaurant will have a sushi bar and serve hibachi cuisine and other Japanese specialties.

St. Philip Catholic Church will be hosting their virtual summer social on Saturday, Aug. 7. Fried chicken dinners will be carry-out and available from 4-7:30 p.m. Price is $11 including mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, green beans, flitter dumplings, coleslaw, roll and a cookie. Line up early as there are no pre-sales, and they will sell out. There is also a half pot and raffle for quilts, cash and a Big Green Egg grill. The Taqueria y Pupuseria Miranda on Evansville’s East Side is now open. The Salvadoran restaurant serves specialties such as pupusas (soft, thick griddled corn masa patties) filled with cheese and other ingredients from chicharrones and beans to loroco flowers. Other dishes inlcude fried yuca, empanadas and pastelitos (turnovers), tacos and torta sandwiches, Salvadoran tamales and breakfast specialties. Drinks will include horchata, aguas frescas, juices and others.

Walton's International Comfort Food restaurant in Haynie's Corner has closed temporarily as owner Tim Mills rebrands the concept to Walton's Smoke House and Southern Kitchen. The restaurant will serve smoked and rotisserie meats, sandwiches and offer a Southern meat-and-three menu. Opening is planned for shortly after labor day. 

The new restaurant will be at 956 Parrett St.
