Nebraska farmer says Canadian wildfire smoke brings relief to tough conditions

A Central Nebraska farmer is getting some unlikely relief from the Canadian wildfires.

“It’s certainly noticeable,” says Glay Govier of Broken Bow.

He tells Brownfield the smoke has created a haze in his area. “I’ve actually thought the haze due to all the smoke has helped keep things a little cooler at least in the mornings anyways then the sun finally gets through and things really heat up.”

The corn, soybean and specialty crops grower says he’ll take any help he can get because Mother Nature has left his operation abnormally hot and dry. “The cooler temps would certainly help,” he says. “Pollination is happening in a big way right now.  Anything you can do to provide relief to these crops during the peak heat of the day is pretty important.”

Other reports show the smoke is having the greatest impact in the northeast part of the state.
