Nationally recognized local restaurant O So Good is set to open its new location inside the downtown Sioux Falls bar, Wileys, this weekend.

O So Good owner Omar Thornton plans to open Sunday, Aug. 1 at Wileys, which is located at 330 N. Main Ave.

Thornton announced earlier this summer that he'd be closing his Garretson restaurant and partnering with Wileys to take over its kitchen. Thornton has struggled with staffing issues for years in Garretson, and after being featured on The Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" show with host Guy Fieri, the restaurant has struggled to keep up with the increased level of demand from its appearance on the show.

"We'll be our own separate entity inside of Wileys,"  Thornton told the Argus Leader after the announcement. "They're 100% on board and want to make it happen. The deal they gave me is a deal I couldn't refuse."

O So Good's new hours run from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for its dinner menu. It'll switch to a late night menu from 8 to 10 p.m. each day, according to Jimmy Gordon, general manager at Wileys.

Wileys is located at 330 N. Main Ave. in downtown Sioux Falls.

As for the new menu, it'll be limited compared to the Garretson location, but will grow as Thornton trains more staff. He'll also feature new foods such as lamb and signature steak on the menu, he said.

"You'll see a lot of key favorites you saw at the other restaurant," Thornton said, such as jambalaya, crab cake, collard greens and his shrimp cheesy hot plate.

The move will open up Wileys as more than a nighttime bar for dinner and eventually lunch. The bar will not be open for lunch or for people younger than 21 for the foreseeable future though, Gordon said. However, children can eat with families on the patio.

"65% of my business came from outside Garretson," Thornton said earlier this summer, "and most of that came from Sioux Falls. We know we have a fan club in Sioux Falls, so that'll be nice."

Thornton is not currently taking any catering events until he's fully up and running at the new location.

While Thornton said he doesn't think of the move as temporary, it could mean bigger things in the future, including opening a separate restaurant, he said.

"We feel that we're going to be a true success there and be able to do a lot more," Thornton said.
