Eugene police: One injured in Lane County Fair shooting

Eugene police have arrested two people in connection to a shooting during the Fair at the Lane County Fairgrounds; the Fair quickly reopened.

EUGENE, Ore — The Eugene Police Department reported in a tweet that it had arrested two people in connection to a shooting at the Lane County Fairgrounds.

Just after 4:20 p.m. on Saturday, Eugene police tweeted that 911 had been called, regarding shots fired at the Lane County Fairgrounds. 

Police released more information regarding the shooting on Sunday. Two teenagers, 16 and 14, got into a fight with an adult, according to the Eugene Police Department. The 16-year-old showed a handgun during the fight. Another person attempted to intervene and was assaulted by friends of the teenagers.

The 16-year-old was contacted by security and shot one round from the gun which hit an uninvolved woman in the arm. The 14-year-old tampered with evidence and was detained with the 16-year-old.

The 16-year-old has been charged with assault in the second degree with a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm and the 14-year-old has been charged with tampering with evidence and disorderly conduct.
