Pence 'sounded like a supplicant' to Jared Kushner druing Trump White House meetings: report
Last year, former Vice President Mike Pence (R) was publicly tapped to oversee the White House Coronavirus Task Force but behind closed doors, White House advisor Jared Kushner was really in charge of the response efforts, according to a new book.
The book, "I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J. Trump's Catastrophic Final Year" written by Washington Post journalists Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker, reportedly includes an excerpt about the Trump White House's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Business Insider, the authors claimed Pence "sounded like a supplicant" to former President Donald Trump's son-in-law.
Individuals who attended the coronavirus task force meetings reportedly indicated that it was "awkwardly clear" that Pence was not the man in charge despite being the face of the task force during Trump's daily COVID briefings. According to Leonnig and Rucker, Pence had a habit of often asking, "Jared, what do you think?" and "Jared, what would you do?"
In fact, one meeting attendee reportedly described Pence's inability to lead as "nauseating." Kushner reportedly spent his time reviewing and criticizing COVID data presented to him by Coronavirus Task Force coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx and other top members of the scientific community.
Neither Pence nor Kushner have responded to the reports about the claims presented in the book.
