The employee-led Citrix Pride Alliance employee resource group (ERG) champions our LGBTQ+ employees by providing support, enhancing career development, and evolving the work environment. Here, we talk to two of the ERG’s leaders, Amanda Mar, a Product Manager on a research and development team dedicated to the Citrix Cloud platform, and Adam Sabin, an Income Tax Manager, about the Pride Alliance, why they feel like they belong at Citrix, and more.

Why is it important for a company to have a group like the Citrix Pride Alliance?

Amanda: Simply having a company-sponsored employee resource group like the Citrix Pride Alliance signals to all employees that this is a place where you can be out without fear.

Adam: After the Pulse nightclub shooting in 2016, Citrix organized a fundraiser to benefit the victims and their families. It was then that I saw how committed Citrix was to its LGBTQ+ employees. Before, I had never come out at work. I always avoided discussing my personal life with co-workers and remained closeted with my peers. That changed for me after Citrix showed me that this was a safe space for me to be my authentic self. I didn’t need to hide who I was anymore.

How has Citrix supported you?

Amanda: I’ve had four roles in five years, and during every move on the career lattice Citrix has supported me with professional development, mentors, and internal and external networking opportunities.

Adam: By encouraging me to grow both my personal and professional skillset. I’ve grown by leaps and bounds as a professional and have also learned critical lessons about the importance of leadership and about doing the right thing, even when no one is looking.

How do you share your identity with your co-workers?

Amanda: I talk about my family as a two-mom unit or drop in the word wife during casual banter. It is something that I do unconsciously at this point in my career at Citrix. Before working here, and before committing to a life partner who is female, it was much more challenging to come out as a pansexual person in the workplace.

Adam: I’ve let my co-workers know that I am actively engaged in the Pride Alliance ERG and have shared with them how important the company’s LGBTQ+ inclusiveness matters to me.

What makes you feel like you belong at Citrix?

Amanda: The people and relationships I have fostered are what make Citrix a place where I feel a sense of belonging and community.

Adam: This post is an example of what makes me feel like I belong at Citrix.  The fact that Citrix walks the walk time and again for not only LGBTQ+ rights, but also for uplifting all our fellow team members (e.g. Black, Latino, Asian, and female employees).
