One of the things I like to do is to scale down other craft ideas to jewelry sized designs. One crafter who did just that is Max Art & Craft. Their tutorial for this awesome statement pair of macrame earrings reminds of the macrame wall decor variety.
If you are good at knotting, you can tackle even smaller circles than that using finer cord. You can also trim the ends if you do not like such a long fringe.
This tutorial assumes you know how to do the basic square knot (see below) because the actual looping of the working cords around the core ones are not in camera view. This is to allow a clearer view of the knotting in the main part of the work.
