Staff reports

Thousand Oaks residents can get rid of extra trash at no cost Sunday during a free landfill day.

City residents — who must provide a driver's license or utility bill as proof of residency — can take up to two loads of waste to the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center at 2801 N. Madera Road. The city-sponsored event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday only.

Household trash, yard waste, concrete, asphalt, metal, bulky items and construction debris may be dropped off during the event. All loads are subject to inspection and must be properly tarped under state law.

Neither hazardous waste nor electronic waste will be accepted. To dispose of such items, residents need to make an appointment for the city's facility for household hazardous waste. Appointments can be made on the city's website at www.toaks.org.
